Hamburg block assistant (f/m/d)
Welcome, and thank you for visiting!
I am an active and adventurous wheelchair user, and I am delighted to welcome you to my website. I live in Bielefeld, where I am assisted around the clock by my assistants, as I am unable to manage my leisure time and work without help due to my physical disability. Despite my disability, I have achieved a lot in my life and still have many goals. If you take a look around this page, you will mainly find information about my everyday life.
Once a month, I leave my comfort zone for a whole weekend and travel to Hamburg. I have been doing this for many years, as I have had a passion for the city since 2011. I always plan an active and varied weekend here and have never been bored. I'm interested in events (Harley Davidson rallies, the harbor birthday celebrations, the Schlagermove parade, Christopher Street Day, and much more), the hustle and bustle of the city, the water, the glamour world, shopping, concerts, and musicals, and just going on tours with me in my wheelchair and my assistant on their bike. In the evenings, I like to go to clubs. But I'm always open to trying new things. Suggestions from you are always welcome, the crazier the better, and sometimes they're implemented faster than you can blink.
The Hamburg block assistance is completely different from the assistance work in Bielefeld. For me, it's about relaxation, fun, and leaving my everyday life behind once a month. That's why you'll find everything you need to know about being a block assistant in Hamburg in this overview. I invite you to take your time reading this text, and if you're interested, feel free to browse the other pages.
For our collaboration, it would be advantageous if you live in Hamburg or the surrounding area or can be there every weekend when you're in Hamburg. Free transportation from Bielefeld or Hanover is possible, and hotel accommodation will of course be paid for you.
We are very mobile in Hamburg thanks to my 10 km/h electric wheelchair and your own bike or one rented by me. If we want to go further afield, car sharing is also no problem if you have a driver's license. We are not dependent on a car. However, due to my disability, I am unfortunately unable to drive myself.
During your stay, we will be staying in a centrally located hotel. You will be responsible for light basic care tasks, for which you do not need any prior training. You will learn a specific technique for transferring me in and out of my wheelchair, which enables even petite individuals to move a man of average weight. Please note that this is not a nursing or caregiving job (all of my previous assistants were career changers with no previous experience). I can easily teach you all the tasks you will learn to help me with my basic care, and I promise that these will not be physically demanding if you are in good shape.
This position is available as a midijob/minijob.
It comprises 50 hours per month. The Hamburg assistance is connected with night duty. You can sleep at night, after all, I sleep too.
- Fri. approx. 11:30 a.m. to Sat. 8:00 a.m.
- Sat. 8:00 a.m. to Sun. 9:00 a.m.
- Sun. 9:00 a.m. to approx. 6:30 p.m.
- This block can be split, so if you don't have time to accompany me throughout, please get in touch anyway and we'll see what we can do.
- This assignment usually takes place once a month. It begins and ends at Hamburg Central Station or Hanover or Bielefeld Central Station. The dates are set well in advance and can also be coordinated with you.
- A replacement will be provided if you are unable to attend.
You should meet the following general requirements:
- Motivation and independence, reliability and punctuality
- Openness to new and different tasks and situations
- A driver's license is an advantage but not essential
- Average physical fitness (especially no acute back problems). You don't need to be able to lift me, as stabilization is sufficient. You will be introduced to certain techniques that enable even petite people to mobilize a man of average weight.
- Mental resilience
As described, I need help with my personal hygiene. You do not need any previous experience or training, just an openness to this area of work. I will, of course, provide you with training and guidance.
What can you expect?
- A salary within the scope of a midijob (up to €2,000.00, sliding scale: job subject to social insurance contributions) or part-time position.
- A minijob (up to €556.00) plus 'Übungsleiterpauschale' (a tax free stipend for care workers, up to €250.00) is also possible. This option is entirely tax-free.
- An hourly wage of €16.50, tax- and social security-free bonuses for night work from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (+ 20%), public holidays (+ 35% of the hourly wage and time off in lieu) and Sunday work (+ 25% of the hourly wage)
- Continued payment of wages in the event of illness
- Paid vacation entitlement of 30 days per year
- During the trip to Hamburg, you will receive additional meal allowances of €14.00 for arrival and departure days and €28.00 for full days. All of this is tax-free.
- The prospect of long-term employment in a varied field of work
- Intensive training with training opportunities
- A good time with cheerful company from me
