Backstage Pass “Assistance”

We asked 100 people, “What is assistance?”

Most shook their heads and walked on. Some asked if we needed help. “Yes, exactly!” That's why we, like so many others, now have an Instagram account.

There, we provide insights into the various facets of this barely known job profile, from everyday banalities to incidents that can only happen once and never again. So if you're on Instagram, follow us here: #teamnixistunmoeglich

For everyone else we've summarized our posts here:

Ein etwas anderer Schlafplatz
A somewhat different place to sleep

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (1/7)

Ha en bra dag!

Today I'm starting a photo series about my motorhome trip through Sweden and Norway to the Lofoten Islands.

On the long, multi-day trip to the far north of Scandinavia, a short break with a nap in the fresh air feels absolutely stellar.

After my assistants carried me onto the table, I asked them to secure me a little so that I wouldn't roll off the table while sleeping.

Spaziergang durch die Natur

Walk through nature

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (2/7)...

After I had a chance to rest a little, we set off on a walk. The highlights of this hike were a moose skeleton lying on the side of the road and...

Rollstuhlpfade

Wheelchair paths

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (3/7)...

...a designated wheelchair path by a beautiful lake. During this trip, we discovered that Scandinavia often has hiking trails that are accessible for wheelchair users. In some cases, there are even wheelchair-accessible toilets in the wilderness, built in traditional log cabin style.

Grillen am Polarkreis

Barbecuing at the Arctic Circle

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (4/7)...

After an exciting day, it's time for a barbecue at the Arctic Circle. Of course, there's salmon and reindeer meat.

Der einsame Rollstuhlfahrer auf den Lofoten

The lonely wheelchair user in Lofoten

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (5/7)...

After four days, we finally arrived in Lofoten with our motorhome. Lofoten is fascinating because of its spectacular landscape. But above all, there is a breathtaking natural spectacle to admire here in autumn and winter:

Polarlichter

Northern lights!

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (6/7)...

On the way north, my assistants and I already had the opportunity to experience this spectacle at some breathtaking places...

Polarlichter

Northern lights

Sweden/Norway/Lofoten (7/7)

... but it was in the Lofoten Islands that it became truly magical. The sight of the aurora borealis takes your breath away and gives you goose bumps. Finally, my dream had come true. For a whole week, the night sky presented us with this spectacle. From night to night, this light show grew stronger and surpassed anything we had seen before. In the end, we were completely exhausted because we didn't want to miss a single aurora borealis session.

If you would also like to see the Northern Lights and travel with me and my great team nixistunmoeglich, then visit our website and apply: www.nixistunmoeglich.de

Assistenz mit ins Krankenhaus nehmen

Taking your assistant to the hospital

Hello everyone!

Since November 1, 2022, another loophole in the law has been closed (§ 11 paragraph 3 SGB V; § 34 paragraph 2 sentence 2 SGB XI; § 63b paragraph 4 SGB XII). As of last month, assistants employed by a nursing service are allowed to accompany their clients to the hospital. Until now, this was only permitted under the employer model, but now it is also allowed under the provider model. There are only two requirements: The client must have a language impairment or be afraid of hospitals.

Unfortunately, the application process is very time-consuming. You have to get a certificate from your doctor or the hospital stating that they approve of the assistance and then apply to your health insurance company or social security provider. I just went through this myself and was very, very relieved that this option is now available, as the nursing shortage in hospitals is even more acute than in outpatient care. I was very happy that my assistant was able to be there for the entire five days, thank you very much!

Teamnixistunmoeglich - Weihnachtskalender

Teamnixistunmoeglich Christmas calendar.

Hello everyone!

A long tradition is being continued this year:

Our Teamnixistunmoeglich Christmas calendar.

Anyone can contribute one or more pictures to the calendar. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed! The pictures in the envelopes show experiences with my team from the past year, and every time I open one, I can reminisce about wonderful memories. The calendar will stay up until at least March so that all my assistants can enjoy it too.

Do you have a special Advent calendar hanging up at home?

Urlaubsplanung

Vacation planning

Hello everyone!

It's almost time to start planning my vacation.

I ask my team who would like to accompany me and we work out together whether the two employees needed for this get along well. Of course, we also have to agree on a destination.

Once these preparations are complete, I start planning the trip. This means choosing a route and booking flights, accommodation, and a rental car at my trusted travel agency.

Namibia is planned for spring 2023!

What is your next destination?

Which places or countries can you recommend?

Urlaubsvorbereitung - Alles eine Frage der Technik

Holiday preparations – it's all a question of technique

Hello everyone!

Before I go on vacation with my assistants, they accompany me to physiotherapy. There, they learn how to overcome various everyday barriers.

This means, for example, that even petite employees can help me get into and out of the bathtub without risking a slipped disc. If the assistant is trained in the technique (kinesthesia), getting in and out can be done without a handrail. However, even the most technically skilled assistant cannot do without the non-slip mats.

It's all a question of technique.

But the whole of Central Europe is throwing its oh-so-important Western values out the window for fear of a yellow card. Don't even think about it.

Urlaubsassistenz kennenlernen

Travel assistance

Are you just looking for a vacation job and don't want to commit long term?

Then you've come to the right place!

In addition to my work and personal assistants, I also have travel assistants. These employees, such as Andreas, accompany me exclusively on vacation. After getting to know each other, we took two weekend trips with an experienced assistant and then flew to Tenerife on our own for a week.

Are you curious?

Then get in touch and we'll see how we can best work together.

Sitzplatz im Linienbus

Seats on public buses

Hello everyone!

For safety reasons, wheelchair users should sit facing the direction of travel on buses. However, I have never seen this happen.

Some time ago, electric mobility scooters were banned from public transport. The reason for this is that they tip over more easily than electric wheelchairs because their center of gravity is higher.

I was once thrown off a bus because I had a license plate.

Wheelchairs suitable for road use are allegedly too heavy to be transported on buses. I haven't found any information about this online.

That's why it's possible to have your electric wheelchair certified in Bielefeld. After a successful inspection, you receive a sticker from moBiel that entitles you to use buses and trains despite having a license plate.

Linienbus - Rampe

Bus ramp

Hello everyone!

Most public buses now have a built-in ramp for strollers and wheelchair users. These buses are recognizable from a distance by a blue wheelchair symbol on the front. It depends on the interior layout and how many spaces are available.

The bus driver is supposed to operate the ramp. But in my experience, this rarely happens. Either my assistants or friendly and attentive fellow passengers fold out the ramp.

Has this ever happened to you?

Eingebaute Rampe bei Regionalzügen

Built-in ramp on regional trains

Hello everyone!

The Deutsche Bundesbahn regional express (red double-decker train) has a built-in electric ramp that can be operated by the train staff, making spontaneous trips possible.

Private train companies often use portable ramps operated by the train crew. These are even more flexible and less prone to malfunction.

Mobile Rampe der DB

DB mobile ramp

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to introduce you to the Deutsche Bahn mobile ramp. There are different types. The latest ramp is electrically operated and has a load capacity of 320 kg. The electronics often fail and the battery is not always charged.

The ICE 4, the latest generation, even has integrated ramps. However, these are not used because they are very cumbersome to operate. It takes about 25 individual steps to extend them. This would significantly disrupt the train schedule.

I wonder how this train was able to obtain approval.

Begleitperson kostenlos im ICE

Free travel for accompanying persons on the ICE

Hello everyone!

The wheelchair spaces on ICEs vary greatly. Some are very spacious, while others are very cramped.

There are also trains where the disabled spaces are in first class. I prefer these, of course, as there is plenty of space and it is very quiet. Naturally, we only pay the second-class fare.

Any wheelchair user who has a B on their ID card can take their companion on the train free of charge.

"Barrierefreiheit" in Zügen

“Accessibility” on trains

Hello everyone!

There are also differences between regional express trains in terms of the amount of space available inside. The Deutsche Bundesbahn trains are the most generously equipped in this respect. But as you can see in this example from the competition, wheelchair users cannot get in there. This train runs from Bremerhaven-Lehe to Cuxhaven.

What experiences have you had on trains?

Rollstuhlplätze in Regionalzügen

Wheelchair spaces on regional trains

Hello everyone!

Wheelchair spaces on regional trains are usually very generously designed. The ramp I need to board is usually even on board, so I can travel spontaneously and without having to register in advance.

One disadvantage of regional trains is that the spaces are located directly next to the disabled toilets, so you are often accompanied by an exquisite aroma. In these moments, the coronavirus protection regulations have another advantage.

It is always astonishing to observe that people without disabilities have difficulty closing the door when using the toilets. In my experience, one in three people leave the door unlocked.

Rollstuhl - Packesel

Wheelchair – packhorse

Hello everyone!

The wheelchair can also serve as a packhorse. This is what it looks like when my assistants and I are traveling within Germany. I drive the electric wheelchair and my assistants carry the luggage. In this case, there were three of us, so we had a little more luggage. Normally, the assistants' luggage also goes on the wheelchair. This makes things a little easier for the assistants.

E-Rollstuhl/Fahrradtour

Electric wheelchair/bike tour

Hello everyone!

My assistants accompany me on vacation on bicycles that we rent locally. This allows us to explore the countryside and cities together and enjoy our vacation with delicious ice cream, a stop at a café, etc.

My assistants assist me on our excursions with small tasks such as applying sunscreen, handing me tissues, putting on my sunglasses, etc.

What do you like to do most on vacation?

Ausflüge

Excursions

Hello everyone!

I'm not a big museum-goer, but I really like the Klimahaus in Bremerhaven. I usually ask my assistants what they would like to do on vacation and then we see how we can make it happen together.

I often don't take my electric wheelchair with me to places like this so that I can get around more easily. My assistants then push me around.

Where do you like to go most?

Handreichung

Assistance

Hello everyone!

Here, my assistant is holding headphones to my ear while she is also wearing a pair herself. As you can see, on a day like this, I need a lot of help for small tasks like these.

Gute Nacht

Good night!

Hello everyone,

how do you go to bed?

Your tasks would include getting me ready for bed in the evening and putting me to bed. In the morning, you would get me out of bed, help me wash, brush my teeth, shave, go to the toilet, etc. Everything you would do for yourselves, you would also do for me. You don't need any nursing experience. All new assistants are trained by me. Just give it a try and come and see me.

Essen anreichen

Serving food

Hello everyone!

How do you plan your breakfast?

When I'm on vacation, I like to have a very extensive and varied breakfast. My food is served to me. Many people say I am being fed like a small child, but I take it with a sense of humor. I can drink independently with a straw. My assistants are always amazed at how fast and how much I can drink with a straw in one go. Wheelchair users should drink a lot and I draw on a lifetime of experience.

Mund auf Assistentin

Assistant mimics open mouth

Hello everyone!

What a phenomenon!

Have you ever served someone food?

Have you noticed that you often open your own mouth while doing so?

I observe this with many of my assistants.

Has this ever happened to you? I'm curious to hear about your experiences!

Rücksichtsnahme

Consideration

Hello everyone!

Many people underestimate the speed of electric wheelchairs. They assume that wheelchair users are very slow and always try to dart out of the way at the last second. Some wheelchairs can travel at speeds of up to 10 km/h, which is significantly faster than a pedestrian.

In my experience, I would hit every second person who runs in front of my electric wheelchair if I wasn't careful.

It's not unusual for an electric wheelchair without a person to weigh 150 kg. You can imagine the force behind it.

If everyone walks and rolls around a little more attentively, there will be no nasty surprises or moments of shock.

Rollstuhltraining mit Assistent*Innen

Wheelchair training with assistants

Hello everyone!

Wheelchair training involves not only riding on an escalator, but also practicing overcoming various obstacles such as curbs, etc. Escalators, for example, allow for significantly greater mobility and have obvious advantages over normal stairs.

The longest escalator I have ever used is in Prague. It was great fun because they are much faster than the escalators we have at home. You just have to dare to do it! Getting on and off are the critical moments. Thanks to the training my assistants have received, this is no problem. You need very little strength compared to conventional stairs.

I'm always amazed when my assistants say after the “wheelchair seminar”: “Man, you must have a lot of trust in us.”

Overcoming obstacles is something that has to be learned. First, you have to practice the technique and then put it into practice. Especially on vacation, being able to use a push wheelchair safely is very advantageous and makes some situations much easier.

Wasserratte

Water lover

Swimming and handicap diver (1/7)

Hello everyone!

Be water my friend.

My assistants have to get me ready for swimming, that means putting on a wetsuit so I don't freeze, arm floats, diving goggles, and a snorkel, then I can swim freely.

Wasserratte

Water lover

Swimming and handicap diver (2/7)

Ambition had taken hold of me – one, two, three, out of the wheelchair, into the water... and a thousand meters were already behind me.

That's how I keep fit. I prefer swimming in warm water. The water in Germany is actually too cold. The best places so far have been Thailand and Bali, where I could even do without a wetsuit without my spasms becoming noticeable.

My assistants don't need lifeguard training to accompany me. They are in the water with me, but they can move around freely.

Handicap-Diver

Handicap diver

Swimming and handicap diver (3/7)

Hello everyone!

Free as a fish,
Dreams must be lived:

I once saw a poster at a trade fair with the slogan “Diving for people with disabilities, is that possible?” This question fascinated me. I was very skeptical at first because I have spasticity. Even though I don't have breathing difficulties and don't need ventilation, I still can't control my limbs properly. Until then, I had believed that I couldn't breathe separately through my mouth and nose.

Finally, I practiced in the bathtub and in the swimming pool with diving goggles and a snorkel. It took about four months to train my body to the point where it was possible.

Handicap-Diver

Handicap diver

Swimming and handicap diver (4/7)

Finally, I traveled with my assistants to a diving club in the Ruhr area, where I could try diving.

After a detailed introduction, which is more or less always given, I was fitted with the equipment. As a precaution, I was given a full-face mask in case I couldn't separate my breathing or keep the mouthpiece in my mouth.

The first dive was in a swimming pool and was very impressive. When I came out of the water, I was sure that this was going to be my new sport.

Vorbereitungen zum Tauchen

Preparations for diving

Swimming and disabled divers (5/7)

In the end, I found a diving club in Bielefeld that also offered diving for people with disabilities. I have now completed several dives in various lakes. It's great fun every time. Sometimes I accompany my diving club on apnea dives, although I can't go into the water myself, of course.

Trainingseinheit

Training session

Swimming and disabled diver (6/7)

Need to release some pressure?

Pressure equalization is necessary not only in life, but also when diving. During my dives, I am accompanied by at least four assistants, two of whom are from the diving club and support me in and under the water.

My assistants from the nixistunmoeglich team do not need to have a diving licence to accompany me and prepare me for the dives, which in my case can reach a maximum depth of 10 metres.

Der (Unter-) Wasserbummler

The underwater wanderer

Swimming and disabled diver (7/7)

The underwater wanderer is coming.

My fondest memories are of my dives in the Philippines. If you are a passionate diver and would like to accompany me, please visit www.nixistunmoeglich.de. It is also possible to simply accompany me on a diving trip without being employed as an assistant.

(End of series)

Behindertenparkplatz

Disabled parking

Hello everyone!

Back to the topic of disabled parking: Often, in other countries more attention is paid to the needs of disabled people. Not only is there a sufficient number of adjacent parking spaces, but there are also clearly marked areas that allow wheelchair users to get in and out of their cars without any problems. Germany could learn a thing or two from this (in this case from Spain, or more precisely Tenerife, where these “luxury” disabled parking spaces are standard).

Behindertenparkplatz

Disabled parking

Dear all!

Disabled parking spaces are always a tiresome topic. Both for non-disabled people and for those who depend on them. They are often occupied by people who are “just popping out” to do some shopping, etc.

But I don't think these people understand that, unlike them, we have no other choice. For us, these parking spaces are not a second choice for convenience, but an absolute necessity.

There are even reservations for disabled parking spaces. If there is a number on the parking space, it is reserved for a specific person. The number can then be found on the corresponding parking permit for severely disabled people.

What requirements must be met to obtain a free European disabled parking permit?

• Certified severe disability with the designation “aG” (exceptional walking disability)

or

• Certified severe disability with the designation “bl” (blind)

or

• Persons with bilateral amelia or phocomelia or comparable functional limitations

"Barrierefreiheit"

“Accessibility”

Hello everyone!

Where is the mistake?

The responsible authority has really outdone itself here. Wheelchair users and strollers don't stand a chance.

Does anyone else have any funny pictures of situations like this?

Send them to me and I'll make a funny picture series out of them.

Schlammtour

Mud tour

Hello everyone!

Here you can see me after completing a buggy tour.

My assistant deliberately accelerated in a mud puddle. It was incredible fun.

Many thanks to Andreas, it was a unique experience!

Buggy-Tour

Buggy tour

Hello everyone

Today I'm taking you on a buggy tour.

For those of you who can still move around or can be transferred into a vehicle with the help of two assistants, this is great fun. You sit next to each other. The assistant only needs a regular driver's license, and then you're off—on the beach or, like us, on dirt and gravel roads. Just Google “buggy tour.” It's not exactly cheap. In Tenerife: €170 for 2.5 hours or €250 for 4 hours. Buggy tours are also available in Germany. Do you have any tips on where to find them in Germany?

Schwimmrolli

Swimming wheelchair

Hello everyone!

Another interesting device for wheelchair users who want to go into the water but are not mobile are so-called beach/water and swimming wheelchairs. They are now increasingly common at holiday destinations and are available to hire for a small fee.

You can make yourself comfortable in a seat and are pulled through the water by assistants. It is also possible to leave the device in the water. This always depends on your own mobility. Two assistants are recommended for this. With this model, the plate under my feet could be folded up so that I could place it on the ground both in and out of the water. You don't need water wings. I only wear them because I moved around independently in the water from time to time. However, I can't swim. If I tried without water wings, it wouldn't end well for me.

However, I recommend trying out the device in warmer climes!

The vehicle is also well suited for beach walks, as the wheels do not sink into the sand.

Inklusionsdemo

Inclusion demonstration

Hello everyone!

As every year on May 5, we are once again taking part in a demonstration on European Protest Day. In recent years, we have been to demonstrations in Berlin and Strasbourg in front of the European Parliament.

This year, we have decided on Bielefeld. Under the motto “Speed up inclusion!”, we will be setting off from the main station at 11 a.m. and heading to Kesselbrink.

This is another great opportunity to fight together for our rights, self-determination, and participation, and to draw attention to the fact that we are still a long way from achieving our goals. Give yourself a push and join us.

Outdoor-Zusatzrad

Outdoor add-on wheel

Hello everyone!

Thanks to the outdoor add-on wheel, I can now visit places that were previously almost impossible for me to reach. Here you can see me in Teide National Park on Tenerife. We started at Tajinaste Rojo, near La Ruleta Vista Point, and followed the signposted wheelchair trail for about 1 km.

Before that, we visited the valley station of the cable car that goes up to Mount Teide. Unfortunately, wheelchair users who are unable to walk for four hours or cannot otherwise navigate difficult terrain are not allowed to use the cable car. The reason for this is the weather and wind, which can change quickly up here. In the worst case, the cable car cannot be operated, meaning that the only way down the mountain is on foot.

Next time, I will need to have a vehicle that is better suited to the terrain so that I can meet the criteria. A so-called Joëlette, a type of rickshaw, would be suitable, for example.

Outdoor Auslug Teneriffa

Outdoor excursion in Tenerife

Hello everyone!

I used to need at least two strong assistants for this. Thanks to the outdoor bike, I can now do it with just one assistant.

Outdoor Auslug Teneriffa

Outdoor trip to Tenerife

Hello everyone!

Today you can see the outdoor add-on wheel in action.

With my wheelchair, I can remove the small front wheels at the touch of a button, giving me even more ground clearance and flexibility on rough terrain.

Chillen auf Teneriffa

Chilling in Tenerife

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to introduce you to a great new device. It is an outdoor add-on wheel for my wheelchair. I call it my fifth wheel.

I was able to test it extensively during my last vacation.

The extra wheel is fixed to the crossbars under the seat cushion with a special mounting bracket.

Ideally, you would need five arms to install it. Since my assistants usually only have two, we came up with the idea of leaning my wheelchair against a wall in a tilted position to attach the wheel.

This way, my assistant can work well while I chill in the sun.

I use a wheelchair from ProActiv. However, I know that other manufacturers also have similar additional wheels in their range.

Inklusion = Freiheit

Inclusion = freedom

Hello everyone!

Want to become an assistant, but don´t know how?

To work for me as an assistant, you have to go through a three-phase application process.

Phase 1 – online application at www.nixistunmoeglich.de or hamburg.nixistunmoeglich.de

Phase 2 – phone call and interview

Phase 3 – work shadowing (you accompany someone for one or two shifts)

As you can see, my employees aren't thrown in at the deep end. Every applicant gets the opportunity to get to know me and the job. It doesn't help anyone if, after completing the paperwork, it turns out that the assistant job and the applicant are not a good fit.

Ostergruß

Easter greetings

Hello everyone, I wish you a happy Easter!

I'm going on vacation now. So, under my direction, my assistant packed my bags today, and on Monday I'll be heading to the airport ✈️. Depending on your disability, you can get free luggage allowance for medical needs, by the way. However, you need a doctor's note that is no more than two weeks old.

Kaffeepause

Coffee

Hello everyone!

As a personal assistant, you help people with disabilities to overcome their limitations. This covers a wide range of areas. To give you a better idea, I've brought a very specific example with me.

No one should hand me a hot cup of tea. My spasticity would cause me to shake too much and burn myself in no time. That's why I need help when drinking, for example. My assistant makes tea for me and then holds the cup so I can reach the straw.

If you are affected yourself, I would be interested to hear about your moments of assistance. What do others take for granted but requires assistance for you?

Best regards

Matthias

Meine Leidenschaft: Hamburg

My passion: Hamburg

Hello everyone!

One battery charge takes me about 50 kilometers at a speed of about 10 km/h. For the assistants in my team who are not passionate marathon joggers, bicycles are therefore available in Bielefeld and Hamburg. However, I can't get much further than that in a day: while an electric car has enough juice for 500 km after 4-5 hours at a charging station, my electric wheelchair needs 14 hours for a tenth of that range.

So if anyone has any contacts at Elon Musk or Tesla, I have a suggestion for a whole new market segment.

Tyrislöt in Schweden

Tyrislöt in Sweden

Hello everyone!

Even though I often have a friendly relationship with my assistants, it's still nice to be “carried on their hands” by them sometimes. Together, we spent three weeks exploring Sweden in a motorhome.

I want to encourage other wheelchair users not to set limits for themselves. Even with a disability, I made it to Tyrislöt. Our final destination was the Lofoten Islands.

Geldautomat

ATM

Three guesses who was first at the ATM ⁉️

Time and again, people around me think I'm not moving fast enough. They push in front of me, cut me off on their bike, and so on. Maybe I need a little longer in my wheelchair, but it's not up to anyone else to decide that I'm taking “too long” for something. I have every right to take as much time as I need! ⏰

Bahnmobilität

Rail mobility

Have you ever wondered how wheelchair users get on trains?

When I want to travel, I register my trip via a hotline at DB.

Then an employee and a small lifting platform are positioned at the appropriate track. When the train arrives, the search for the right door begins. Depending on the type of train, a ramp is folded out or the lifting platform is used.

Although I often hear that wheelchair users have difficulties or concerns, I have to say that as a frequent traveler, it has always worked well for me. Even spontaneous trips went surprisingly well!

The registration process could be easier, and sometimes it's a little tricky to find the right doors, but when trains are delayed, DB is flexible and takes care of the necessary schedule changes.

Rollstuhltraining

Wheelchair training

Hello everyone!

When selecting an employee for my assistant team, I focus on the person as a whole. You don't need any prior knowledge.

You will learn things such as how to use a wheelchair and how to help me get from my wheelchair into a car, for example, during your training. Even small activities like this one with the whole team help you settle in during the initial period. Here we are practicing moving the wheelchair over a curb. And we do this from both perspectives.

In this picture, an employee is sitting in a wheelchair to put themselves in my position. For most people, this experience is strange and causes discomfort due to the loss of control.

Have a great weekend! ☀️

Hello everyone!

Let's be honest, as a wheelchair user, even everyday things can become a challenging procedure. I'm just saying stairs...

That's why I founded my assistance team nixistunmoeglich. My employees don't just help me transfer to my wheelchair, they also help me get the toaster off the top shelf.

Sometimes, however, it's not quite so trivial, as was the case on this vacation. A little help and I'm up there. Assistance means accompanying me in every situation and even helping me ride an elephant!

Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to introduce you to a special advantage personal assistance provides. It's about mobility.

There are various means of transportation available for wheelchair users. I'm not just talking about buses and trains. We also get around with adapted bicycles, electric wheelchairs, or on foot.

You read that right, on foot. Because every disability is different and there are many different reasons for living in a wheelchair. So there are also some people in the community who can walk with a little assistance.

But we also need support, for example, when transferring to an electric wheelchair or, as here, to a motorcycle.

As you can see, my home is not only the paved city, but also more rugged terrain. To go on trips like this, I need my assistants, for example to help me into my electric wheelchair. But once I'm there, we're mobile and can roam around in the countryside.

Of course, I also appreciate cozy evenings at home, but a little openness and a sense of adventure are simply part of everyday life as an assistant.
