Job as a travel assistant (female/diverse/male) for an adventurous wheelchair user
Join me on trips around the world - between Cuxhaven and Canberra!
Interested in adventure travel while earning money?
I am an active wheelchair user from Bielefeld who loves life and traveling even more. Whether it's the Trans-Siberian Railway, scuba diving in Egypt, a road trip through Africa or simply a relaxing week on the North Sea - I've already been to 30 countries on 4 continents and I haven't had enough yet! Maybe you're the one who will accompany me to the 31st country (165 to go) or the 5th continent (South America, Australia or Antarctica)? On longer trips abroad, you will be one of two travel assistants; on trips within Germany i am usually accompanied by only one person.
What is this about?
I am looking for a reliable and adventurous travel assistant who will support me when I am traveling - in everyday life, on adventures and everything in between. This can be a one-off or the start of a long-term travel-career. Don't worry: you don't need any previous experience in the care sector - but it would be nice if it's not your first trip. What counts is your openness, your desire to travel and your willingness to learn new things. You will help me with
- basic care (after training and instruction)
- transfers (e.g. from my wheel-chair to bed in a back-friendly manner)
- everyday life when traveling: from packing suitcases to driving a rental car into the sunset
Sometimes you are my co-pilot through the South African bush, sometimes my cycling partner on the North Sea. Your task is to accompany me - physically, practically and personally. You will have a say in how adventurous it will be. These trips are my holidays, which is why the interpersonal level is particularly important to me.
What can you expect?
- 1 to 6 weeks of travel, planned months before
- Employment for the duration of the trip
- One or two introductory weekends in advance, to familiarize yourself with the job and to get to know your fellow travel assistant
- Hourly wage: €16.50/h plus tax-free bonuses (nights, weekends, public holidays)
- Midijob or mini-job model (incl. 'Übungsleiterpauschale' a tax free stipend for care workers)
- 30 days vacation per year (pro rata depending on the scope of the position)
- Additional expenses for meals when traveling: €28.00/day tax-free - It is also possible to certify the vacation as an internship
- Travel experience you will never forget
You're a good fit for me if you...
- like to travel - from beach vacations to road trips to nowhere
- are physically resilient (you don't need superpowers or a lot of strength!)
- are open, communicative, empathetic and reliable
- can adapt to changing daily routines
- speak at least some German well and can express yourself in English (B2 level)
- keep a cool head even in unforeseen situations
- have a driving license (class B), at least 2 years of driving experience and are over 25 years old
Want an example?
Cuxhaven: Holiday apartment, electric wheelchair, fish sandwiches on the dyke, bike tour to the lighthouse, fancy dining (1 week/1 travel assistant).
Namibia: 500km/day in an off-road vehicle, no electric wheelchair, spontaneous accommodation (tent to lodge), wild animals, wild nights, quad biking & canoeing (5 weeks/2 travel assistants).
Poland: 200km/day in a motorhome, no electric wheelchair, looking for exciting pitches, enjoying the countryside, city trips (2 weeks/2 travel assistants).
These are just three examples, nothing is impossible.
The journey is the destination - and you will have a say in where to go.
