Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is the meaning behind the name “nix-ist-unmöglich” (nothing is impossible)?
- The name means exactly what it says: nothing is impossible! There is no care service behind it, just me and my conviction. That's why the team name has become our motto.
Why is the questionnaire so detailed? Do I have to fill it out?
- Assistance work is a very individual field and requires different qualifications. I would like to get to know you a little in advance through the questionnaire so that I can assess whether you have the qualifications that are essential for coping with my everyday work. I would therefore be very grateful if you could take the time to fill out the questionnaire and give me a little insight into who you are.
- If you do not wish to do so, please upload your application with a detailed cover letter and your resume and fill out the required fields in the questionnaire.
What happens after I submit the questionnaire?
- I appreciate every completed questionnaire. I will review it and then try to contact you by phone to clarify the most important questions in advance. This way, you can get a bit of an impression of me - and I can get one of you as well.
- After the phone call, I will arrange an appointment for us to meet at my office. After that, we will decide together whether we would like to arrange a work shadowing appointment. This cannot be remunerated.
- The work shadowing offers both sides the opportunity to assess whether the chemistry is right. A member of staff will of course be present during the work shadowing. Afterwards, we can both decide whether we would like to work together.
Why are positions advertised for Bielefeld and Hamburg?
- I live in Bielefeld in my own apartment. However, I fell in love with the city of Hamburg in 2011. Since then, I have been traveling to Hamburg regularly, at least once a month for a weekend, to escape my everyday life. To make the organization easier, I am looking for assistants for both Bielefeld and Hamburg. Unlike the position in Bielefeld, the assistant position in Hamburg is also offered as a weekend block.
Why is there a separate section for “worldwide travel assistant wanted”?
- As I am a passionate globetrotter, I love to travel privately and, more recently, professionally, as I am a travel coordinator for people with disabilities. Anyone who works in my team and would like to accompany me on my travels is very welcome. Because the capacity of my existing team is limited, I am also looking for people who only want to be employed for travel. Whether this is a one-off or on a regular basis remains to be seen.
Does it make sense to apply if I come from outside the area, i.e. I don't live in Bielefeld/Hamburg myself?
- Yes, it is. My team already includes several assistants who live a good 50 to 100 kilometers away from the respective city. Travel expenses are not covered, so it depends on your personal willingness to travel. It also depends on your availability. The best thing to do is to get in touch and we can discuss your availability and location in person.
- For Worldwide travel assistance, I am looking for people throughout Germany and possibly also worldwide. So be sure to apply so we can get in touch.
Why don't I need nursing training or previous nursing experience? What nursing tasks will I be responsible for?
- I require as much care in my daily life as you probably do yourself and do not need any special medical care. However, I need a little more time for my daily care. Essentially, I need you to help me cope with my daily routine and to live independently. In cases where care is needed, I can give you very precise instructions and tell you what steps you need to take.
- You will take on all the care tasks that you would perform for yourself. I will support you physically as far as possible and with verbal instructions.
Who is responsible during my assignments?
- You are essentially my hands and feet in everyday life. However, I am perfectly capable of thinking for myself and therefore take responsibility for my own life and all my activities. If something does happen, you are of course insured.
- At this point, I would like to emphasize once again that this is not a care facility, which is often confused in the public perception. I do not have a legal guardian, but live and make decisions autonomously. That is why we refer to this as an assistant job.
Do I have to work on weekends and holidays?
- Since I require assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, everyone must occasionally work on weekends and holidays. However, there is no need to worry. The shifts are divided fairly, so you will only have to work a maximum of two weekend shifts per month.
Why do I need to have a driver's license, two years of driving experience, and be at least 22 years old?
- I travel a lot for work and in my private life, and I often travel by car. However, due to my disability, I cannot drive alone. To ensure that I am mobile at all times, each of my assistants must have a driver's license. The requirements regarding driving experience and age are stipulated by the insurance company, as the cars are fully insured.
Why is there a 2-shift system?
- This has proven to be the best way to ensure continuity and stability for my lifestyle. The shifts in Bielefeld do not usually change.
- Under certain circumstances, 24-hour shifts or block shifts are also possible by arrangement (especially for Hamburg block assistance and worldwide travel assistance).
How is the work schedule organized? What if I want to swap a shift?
- The work schedule is managed using a framework plan, the structure of which is agreed with each assistant. You can enter dates when you are unavailable or unable to work. This will be taken into account in the planning.
- The work schedule is always planned two months in advance. If the work schedule for a month has already been finalized and you want to swap, you must find a replacement yourself and arrange the swap with me.
When will I receive my salary and bonuses? What happens to my assignment if I fall ill?
- This is a position subject to tax and social security contributions. Your salary will be paid on the last day of the month. Tax- and insurance-free bonuses will be paid retroactively for one month.
- If you fall ill and are unable to work, you will of course be paid. You will need a doctor's note from the first day of your sick leave.
Why is so much importance placed on written and verbal communication?
- Due to my disability, I am unable to write myself. You will take care of this for me. As I regularly write public texts, important emails, and other correspondence for both personal and professional purposes, I need to be sure that the texts are appropriately worded and correct in terms of spelling and grammar.
What does physical resilience mean?
- The assistant job is very varied and diverse. You need to be reasonably fit for both the nursing tasks and my other everyday activities. For example, you will need to push me in my wheelchair and load and unload it when traveling by car. However, when planning my leisure activities, I also take into account the physical capabilities of my assistant.
I hope this Q&A has helped you and given you a better idea of what the assistant job entails.
